Moving the mousewheel forwards will allow you to zoom in at a significantly faster pace. Similarly, moving the mousewheel backwards will allow you to zoom out considerably faster.
Pressing the shift key, and then clicking and drawing a box will allow you to zoom in to the specified area within the box.
Pressing the control and shift keys together and then clicking and drawing a box will allow you to zoom out. The distance that you zoom out is related to the size of the box you draw. The smaller the box, the further away you will zoom out.
